Course Description
Substance use difficulties often stem from maladaptive coping mechanisms, cognitive distortions, emotional dysregulation, and environmental or social triggers. Individuals may experience cycles of craving, use, short-term relief, and relapse that interfere with daily functioning and long-term wellbeing.
This two-hour online training introduces participants to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches for substance use.
The session will cover key components of CBT for substance use, including:
• Understanding the cognitive-behavioural model of substance use
• Identifying triggers, high-risk situations, and maintaining factors
• Recognizing and modifying substance-related beliefs and cognitive distortions
• Developing coping strategies to manage cravings and urges
• Building alternative, healthier behavioral patterns
• Implementing relapse-prevention and long-term maintenance strategies
Participants will gain practical CBT tools and structured techniques to support individuals in reducing substance use, enhancing coping skills, and maintaining long-term behavioral change.
This workshop is designed for mental health professionals, psychology students, and individuals interested in evidence-based interventions for substance use.
